Leaders and workers of the National Citizen Party (NCP) cannot be stopped with sand trucks, the party’s spokesperson, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, has said.
He made the remark in a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday.
In the post, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan wrote: “A sand truck is not easy to forget. But we cannot be stopped with sand trucks the way you were.”
NCP leaders and workers meanwhile took position, in the rain, on the road in the area of the Rashidpur gas field in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district.
Earlier on Wednesday, NCP leaders set out from the Moulvibazar Circuit House and police put up a barricade on the road when they reached the front of the Cha-Kanya sculpture in Sreemangal at about 5pm. There was a long argument between police and NCP leaders and workers, including the central leaders Nahid Islam, Dr Mahmuda Jahan Mitu, Sarjis Alam, Nasiruddin Patwari and Hasnat Abdullah. At one point they broke through the police barricade and moved forward.
Clashes broke out on Tuesday between NCP leaders and leaders and activists of the BNP’s associate organisations after a march and rally in Habiganj district town. Several people including Sarjis Alam were injured and a number of vehicles were vandalised.
The NCP announced a protest rally in Habiganj that night over the incident.
When the Habiganj district Jubo Dal called a rally on the same day, the district administration imposed section 144 in the Habiganj municipal area for an indefinite period.
