We didn’t start this war, so we won’t accept aggression

Iran’s Acting Defense Minister, Sayyed Majid Ibn al-Reza, has said his country’s armed forces have never started any war. However, he said, no form of military aggression against Iran’s independence, territory or security will be accepted.

He made the comments in remarks delivered before Friday prayers at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla on Friday, August 21. Al Jazeera reported the development, citing Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

Ibn al-Reza claimed that Iran entered its latest conflict with the United States and Israel — known among Iranians as the “Ramadan War” — from a far stronger position than during the earlier 12-day war.

He said the latest war was a difficult test for Iran. Although the country suffered loss of life and extensive damage, he said, it demonstrated the strength of national self-confidence.

Iran’s acting defense minister said the war showed that, by relying on their own capabilities, harnessing the strength of young people, prioritizing science and technology, and remaining united, the Iranian people can confront any threat.

He further claimed that Iran’s capacity to penetrate enemy bases, monitor regional movements and inflict greater damage has grown ahead of any future conflict. At the same time, he said, Iran’s “surprises” in strategy and technology have advanced further.

Ibn al-Reza said Iran’s current defense capability is not meant for waging war, but for preventing war and aggression.

He said: “We have never initiated aggression against any country, and we will not do so in the future either. However, any attempt at military aggression against Iran’s territory, independence or security will be repelled.”
