Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran is ready to continue dialogue to protect its national interests. But he said Iran would not accept any demand that undermined its sovereignty or defence capabilities.
In an address to the Iranian people, Pezeshkian stressed the need for better relations with neighbouring countries and for preventing regional division.
Pezeshkian rejected claims that his administration had pressed the country’s leadership to agree to talks.
State news agency IRNA reported that Pezeshkian stressed Iran regards Muslim countries as brothers. He also asked why Muslim states should be drawn into conflict with one another.
The Iranian president warned that the United States and Israel were seeking to unite the Persian Gulf countries against Iran, and that Tehran was working to prevent it.
