BNP secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that even after the fall of the ‘Awami autocracy’, the rattle of its followers’ weapons and their bloodshed have not stopped. He made the remarks in a condolence message on Thursday.
Mirza Fakhrul said: “Around 10pm on Wednesday, miscreants brutally hacked to death Zahidul Alam Jahangir, president of Mithamoin upazila BNP in Kishoreganj. I express deep concern at this savage killing and strongly condemn and protest it. Even after the fall of the Awami autocracy, the rattle of its followers’ weapons and their bloodshed have not stopped. Wednesday’s hacking to death of Zahidul Alam Jahangir is a continuation of that. Their efforts to wipe out the Bangladeshi nationalist force are still going on. But the reign of Awami plunder will not return through such killings and assaults.”
He said Zahidul Alam Jahangir had been deeply committed to the principles and ideals of former president Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, and to the Bangladeshi nationalist philosophy, and had been dedicated to establishing Mithamoin upazila BNP on a strong, dynamic and solid footing. He had unshakeable faith in the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, Fakhrul said, and had actively taken part in all democratic movements under their leadership. He prayed that God would grant Jahangir paradise and give his grieving family the strength to endure.
The BNP secretary-general prayed for the salvation of Jahangir’s departed soul and expressed deep condolences to his bereaved family, relatives, well-wishers and admirers. He also strongly demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals who killed Jahangir.
