The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) will begin a protest movement from October 2 unless chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns by Saturday, the party’s leader, Abhijit Dipke, announced on Friday.
On Thursday, the CJP had given Gyanesh Kumar a 48-hour deadline to resign.
“If Gyanesh Kumar does not resign by tomorrow, the CJP will start its movement from Mumbai on October 2,” Dipke wrote in a social media post. “It will then spread to every city in the country. Take an oath to save democracy this Gandhi Jayanti.”
At a press conference in Delhi on Thursday, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke accused the Election Commission of manipulating voter lists and undermining the right to vote, and said the movement would continue until the chief election commissioner resigns.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also questioned the credibility of India’s electoral system, claiming that votes were stolen in every election from the Lok Sabha to various state assemblies.
