DHAKA — The Bangladeshi rock band Nemesis announced it will release a new album after an eight-year break. The group’s fourth album, “VIP,” is scheduled for release on May 23. Vocalist and guitarist Zohad Reza Chowdhury said the album will contain 10 songs, including “VIP,” “Ghum,” “Daak,” “Maya” and “Tomar Chehara.” Two of the tracks, “Ghor” and “Bhanga Aayna,” have already been released.
Nemesis will release all 10 songs simultaneously on Spotify, YouTube and other digital platforms. Speaking to Prothom Alo about the album, Chowdhury said: “We often see VIP culture — when you step out on the road you have to wait for VIPs, you get stuck in traffic. Someone falls victim to it every day. I wrote the song ‘VIP’ about that culture.”
On the album’s sound, Chowdhury said: “We tried to experiment a bit more sound-wise. Personally, I really like electronic music, so I tried to bring those sounds into the new songs. Each song felt more personal, because most of them came from my own experiences. Nemesis has been around for 25 years, so I felt we would regret it if we didn’t push ourselves into more experimental territory.”
Nemesis started in 1999. Its debut album, “Onneshon,” came out in 2005, followed by “Tritiyo Jatra” in 2011 and “Gonojowar” in 2017. Songs including “Bir,” “Nirbashon,” “Tritiyo Jatra,” “Egiye Jao” and “Gonojowar” have built its following.
The band currently has five members: Zohad Reza Chowdhury (vocals and guitar), Rafsan (guitar), Ifaz (guitar), Ratul (bass guitar) and Zeffrey (drums).
