Police in Matlab Uttar, Chandpur, have arrested three leaders of the Awami League, whose activities are banned, and its affiliated organisations. They were arrested in drives in different parts of the upazila on Tuesday evening.
One of those arrested is Abdur Razzak Robin, 26, son of Belayet Hossain of Purba Shatnal village in Shatnal union. He is known as the first joint convener of the Shatnal union Chhatra League.
The others are Abdul Hashem, 60, son of Habib Ullah Bepari of Ludhua village, who is known as an Awami League leader, and Mohin Uddin, 48, son of Ruhul Amin of Paschim Islamabad village, who is known as president of the Awami League’s Sujatpur Bazar regional committee.
Police sources said a case had been filed against the three under the Anti-Terrorism Act and they were later sent to court. Matlab Uttar police said they were arrested as part of regular drives to keep law and order normal and against the activities of the banned organisation.
Matlab Uttar police station officer-in-charge Manas Barua said: “Three leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations have been arrested as part of Matlab Uttar police’s regular drives. A case has been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act. They have been sent to court after the legal process.”
