An auto-rickshaw driver, Siddique Miaji, 48, has been killed in an auto-rickshaw accident in Matlab South, Chandpur.
The accident happened at around 1pm on Tuesday (September 22) in the Naogaon area of the upazila.
Siddique Miaji was the son of the late Abbas Miaji and Manikjan Begum of Madhya Naogaon village in the upazila.
Family, police and eyewitness sources said Siddique Miaji was driving his own auto-rickshaw at around 1pm from Naogaon Arangbazar, near his home, towards Haji Market in the Naogaon area of the upazila. There were no passengers in his auto-rickshaw at the time. On reaching the Naogaon bridge area, the auto-rickshaw suddenly lost control, overturned and fell into waterlogged ground beside the road. The driver, Siddique Miaji, was seriously injured. Relatives and local people rescued him on hearing the news and took him to the emergency department of the upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The dead driver’s elder brother, Md Haider Miaji, said: “My brother had been somewhat unwell for a while. The household ran on his earnings. My brother has died — what will become of his three children and his wife now?”
Matlab South police station’s officer-in-charge, Hafizur Rahman Manik, confirmed the death of the auto-rickshaw driver Siddique Miaji.
