Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) in Agargaon in the capital have protested and carried out vandalism demanding the recovery of the university’s old trade fair ground. At one point the angry students damaged a gate and stalls built for the Asia International Fair.

On Wednesday the students gathered in front of the university’s flag stand and then marched to the old trade fair ground, where they took position and chanted slogans demanding its return. At one point they vandalised the fair’s gate and stalls.

One student said: “Yesterday (Tuesday) we asked for the fair to be moved and set a deadline. But we have seen no progress since then. We will continue our movement until we get our ground back.”

Md Jahangir Islam, the fair’s organiser, said: “We are telling them to remove the gate right now. We are not outsiders to this university. We will remove it.”
