BNP candidate Mirza Faisal Amin said on Thursday morning that he was fully confident of winning the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, speaking after he voted at the Thakurgaon Government Girls’ High School centre.
“I have just voted. It would not be right to say anything about the atmosphere yet. But it seems the vote will be held in a festive mood, and voters will cast their ballots peacefully,” Mirza Faisal said.
“The weather is a little bad, but I still hope turnout will be good. I am fully hopeful of victory. But the people’s verdict is final. I would not dare to reject it,” he added.
Voting is under way in the Thakurgaon-1 seat, left vacant by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir when he took office as president. Polling began at 8am and will continue until 4pm.
