NETROKONA, Bangladesh — A man in Netrokona has filed an affidavit disowning his son for continuing to engage in politics with the banned Chhatra League, the document shows.

Mir Mohammad Abdul Malek, a resident of the Satpai area of Netrokona’s sadar upazila, said his son, Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman Chhoton, has been active as a Chhatra League activist since his teenage years in violation of family principles. Chhoton most recently served as a vice president of the district Chhatra League.

On March 6, Abdul Malek filed an affidavit, number 310, at the Netrokona district notary public’s office disowning Chhoton.

Most of the family and relatives are associated with BNP politics, the affidavit said. The relationship had been strained for years due to political differences and what the father described as his son’s misconduct in pressing various demands. For those reasons, he said, he disowned his son.

The affidavit was filed through lawyer Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Netrokona district court.

In the affidavit, Abdul Malek said that even after the government banned the Chhatra League in the aftermath of Aug. 5, 2024, his son ignored his warnings and stayed involved with the organization. After learning of this, he said, he expelled his son from the family home and would not be responsible for any future unlawful acts by his son.
