Wounded freedom fighter Jhurul Islam named Pabna zila parishad administrator

PABNA — The government has appointed Mohammad Jhurul Islam Bishu, a wounded freedom fighter and former chairman of the Pabna municipality, as administrator of the Pabna zila parishad, one of 14 such appointments made nationwide.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, March 31, in a notification issued by the local government division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Khondaker Farhad Ahmed under presidential order, said the newly appointed administrators will perform full-time duties at their respective zila parishads until further notice.

Bishu is an experienced public representative and a wounded veteran of the 1971 Liberation War. He served as chairman of the Pabna municipality from 1989 to 1991.

After the 1991 election that followed the transfer of power by Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Bishu served as senior vice president of the district BNP, a member of the central Freedom Fighters’ Front and president of its Pabna committee, sources said. Under his chairmanship, the Pabna municipality was upgraded to first-class status.

Various groups in Pabna have congratulated Bishu on his appointment.

Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, member of parliament for Pabna-5, congratulated Bishu and said the development of the zila parishad and the district as a whole would be achieved through the combined efforts of Bishu and all those concerned.
