Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari will visit the Benapole border to protest forced push-ins from India, the party said. He travels to the border on Wednesday.
The NCP announced the plan on Tuesday. Under Patwari’s schedule, he is to arrive at the Benapole border at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, inspect the Sadipur border at 11:45 a.m., and hold a press briefing at the lobby of a tourist hotel in Benapole at 1 p.m.
The NCP said the main purpose of the visit was to assess border security, sovereignty and conditions on the ground. Patwari was attacked on May 22 during a visit to the Jhenaidah border. He alleged that activists of the Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked him in the presence of police shortly after he came out from offering Friday prayers at the municipal collectorate Jame Mosque. Before that, Patwari had gone to Hatibandha in Lalmonirhat to protest the killing of a Bangladeshi at the border.
