GOPALGANJ — Police in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur upazila have recovered the body of Md. Tauhidul Islam Molla, a young man missing for more than three months.

The decomposed body was pulled from a water hyacinth-choked pond in Bhakuri village on Monday, March 16, around midday.

Tauhidul was the son of Akhtar Ali Molla of Latifpur village in Muksudpur’s Gobindapur union.

According to police and family sources, Tauhidul went missing on Dec. 16 last year. After his family searched for him without success, his father filed a general diary and a complaint at Muksudpur police station.

Locals clearing water hyacinth from a pond in nearby Bhakuri village on Monday afternoon spotted a body in the water and raised an alarm. Muksudpur police reached the scene and recovered the body.

Family members identified Tauhidul by his clothing and other markers. After completing an inquest, police sent the body to the morgue at the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital for autopsy.

Muksudpur police officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun said the body of the young man who went missing three months ago had been recovered and was almost completely decomposed after the long time underwater.
