DINAJPUR — A 50-year-old farmer died of a suspected heat stroke while waiting to fuel his motorcycle at a filling station in Dinajpur’s Kaharole upazila on Thursday, police said.

Enayetul Karim, son of Mozammel Hossain of Sator village in Sator union, Birganj upazila, collapsed around 10:15 a.m. at the Sundail Asma Latifa filling station, police said.

He was on his way home from his in-laws’ house in Ichail village in Kaharole’s No. 4 Targaon union when he stopped at the pump for fuel.

Witnesses and police said Enayetul had been riding his motorcycle home from his in-laws’ house Thursday morning. When he reached the filling station, fuel was being dispensed and he pulled in. After standing in the sun for an extended period, he began sweating heavily.

He then collapsed with his motorcycle in the station. Others waiting for fuel rushed him to the Kaharole upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Kaharole police officer-in-charge Shyamal Kumar Barman confirmed the death, saying Enayetul fell ill while waiting in line for fuel and was declared dead at the hospital.

Barman said the body was handed over to the family since no complaint had been filed.
