ISHWARDI, Pabna — Police arrested a man who falsely identified himself as a joint district and sessions judge after he arrived at the Ishwardi police station at night seeking a rest-house room and train ticket assistance.

Mohammad Jamal Uddin, inspector for investigations at Ishwardi police station, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday morning, April 1. The incident occurred Tuesday night, March 31, in Ishwardi, Pabna.

The arrested man was identified as Syed Zia Pir Mohammad Ali, son of the late Abdul Alim of Bagmara village in Jashore’s Kotwali police station area.

Jamal Uddin said the suspect had come to the police station seeking special favors by claiming to be a joint district and sessions judge. “We have learned through inquiries that he previously held a low-ranking job in Jashore. At present, he is unemployed,” he said.

Police said the man, accompanied by a woman, entered the office of the Ishwardi officer-in-charge and identified himself as the joint district and sessions judge of Jhenaidah. He sought police assistance in obtaining a rest-house room and a train ticket to Jashore. Officers became suspicious because of inconsistencies in his statements and behavior and began verifying his identity. The checks confirmed he was not a judge but was posing as one with the intent to defraud.

The woman accompanying him slipped away as the situation unfolded, police said. The man was then detained, and after investigation, he was formally arrested in a case.

Mohammad Mominuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, said that after confirming the facts, the man was being produced in court on charges of impersonating a judge.
