Police seize 2,500 liters of fuel in Pabna, detain 2

CHATMOHAR, Pabna — Police seized 2,500 liters of diesel and petrol stored in 12 barrels and detained two people during a raid in Pabna’s Chatmohar upazila, the officer-in-charge said.

The fuel was seized Sunday evening, March 29, in the Ramchandrapur intersection area of Gunaigacha union, based on a tip-off, police said.

Pesticide and fuel trader Mukul Hossain and Shamsul, a driver of a small motorized vehicle known as a nasimon, were detained in the operation.

Mohammad Golam Sarwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chatmohar police station, citing the detainees, said the fuel belonged to Liton, son of Makbul Hossain of the Jardis intersection area of the upazila headquarters, and Mukul Hossain, son of Afzal Hossain of Chinabhatkur in Nimaichara union. The detainees claimed they had purchased the fuel from the Baghabari area but could not produce any valid documentation, he said.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Musa Naser Chowdhury was informed and went to the scene. He had the seized fuel sold in the open market in the Mathurapur area.

Chowdhury said legal action would be taken against the detainees and that such operations would continue.
