CHUADANGA — Workers planning to go abroad should never hand money to brokers and should instead seek out government offices, receive proper training and present themselves as skilled workers, Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahirul Islam said Saturday. Skilled workers, he said, earn higher wages overseas and bring honor to their families and country.
Jahirul spoke as chief guest at a Remittance Warriors Day discussion in memory of the July mass uprising, held Saturday morning, Aug. 2, at the district’s Sahityamancha.
“Unskilled workers struggle to find work abroad and can end up bringing disrepute to their families and the country,” he said. “Do not get cheated by brokers under any circumstances. Go abroad through official channels.”
District Superintendent of Police Khandaker Golam Mawla, a special guest, said the district’s overall law-and-order situation was good. He urged residents not to take the law into their own hands and to cooperate with police on any problem.
Two remittance workers — Ansar Ali, based in the United States, and Parvin Akhter, based in Jordan — were honored with crests at the event. Local dignitaries also attended. The meeting was chaired by Abdul Halim, assistant director of the district employment and manpower office.
