JASHORE — The Chougachha upazila Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Jashore district said Tuesday it has taken a tough stance against misleading and offensive comments about party candidates on social media.

The directive, issued at noon on Oct. 28 and signed by upazila BNP president M.A. Salam and general secretary Masudul Hasan, said some people have been using fake Facebook accounts to make negative and offensive comments about the party’s candidates.

The practice is undermining party unity and showing a tendency to defy central directives, the directive said. In particular, some people have damaged the party’s image by saying things like, “I won’t go to the polling station if a specific candidate is not nominated” or “I will vote for another party,” it said.

The Chougachha upazila BNP strongly condemned and protested such activities and urged everyone to remain vigilant, the directive said. It also ordered that such misleading comments be removed promptly. Otherwise, organizational action will be taken against those responsible on charges of spreading misinformation on social media, the directive warned.
