Missing Bangladesh Bank official Naimur Rahman rescued in Madaripur

MADARIPUR — Police rescued Naimur Rahman, a deputy director of Bangladesh Bank who had been reported missing, from a residential hotel in Madaripur town, officials said.

Rahman was rescued around 10 p.m. Tuesday from the Royal Rest House in the Puran Bazar area of the town. Madaripur Sadar police and District Magistrate Naimur Rahman Sarkar took part in the operation.

“A deputy director of Bangladesh Bank was reported missing,” District Magistrate Naimur Rahman Sarkar said. “Based on information, we learned he was staying at a hotel in Madaripur. We then carried out the operation and rescued him. He is currently in police custody.”

Royal Rest House manager Natraj Sarkar said Rahman had checked in a day earlier and identified himself as a job seeker.

Police and a magistrate took him into custody Tuesday night.

Madaripur Sadar police station Officer in Charge Adil Hossain said: “We are confirming the facts of the case. A general diary has been opened. He will be handed over to the appropriate police station.”

Rahman’s disappearance had caused concern. He was safely recovered after the police operation.
