CHOUGHACHHA, Bangladesh — Five cattle belonging to a farmer in Jashore’s Choughachha upazila burned to death in a mysterious overnight fire, the owner said Monday.
The cattle belonged to Kohinoor Mallick, son of the late Alauddin, of Mirzapur village in Jagadishpur union. Mallick said he woke to the sound of his cattle crying out around midnight Sunday and found his shed engulfed in flames. Neighbors alerted the fire service, which extinguished the blaze.
The shed held four cows, four bulls and two calves. All 10 animals were burned. Five died inside the shed, and the other five are in critical condition.
Mallick and witnesses said no cause for the fire could be determined. They said authorities should investigate whether the fire was set deliberately out of enmity.
Choughachha police station Officer-in-Charge B. Hossain confirmed the incident and said efforts were underway to identify those responsible.
