DHAKA — Police have recovered the hanging body of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Jannat Ara Rumi, 30, from a women’s hostel in Zigatola and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Rumi was a joint coordinator of the NCP’s Dhanmondi police station (Dhaka Metropolitan South) coordination committee, according to reports.
Her body was recovered hanging from a room on the fifth floor of the Jannati Women’s Hostel, next to Zigatola Kacha Bazar, early Thursday morning.
Jannat Ara Rumi was the daughter of Md. Jakir Hossain of an area near the bus stand in Najipur police station in Naogaon district.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Motiur Rahman of Hazaribagh police station confirmed the recovery and said Jannat Ara had been married twice and both marriages had ended in divorce.
Although it was reported she was involved in NCP politics, SI Motiur could not confirm this.
He said the body had been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. An unnatural death case had been filed at Hazaribagh police station, he said.
