KHAGRACHHARI — Army personnel arrested an active member of the United People’s Democratic Front (Prosit) faction during an operation in the Maratila area of Khagrachhari, security forces said.
The operation was conducted on Monday afternoon, Nov. 10. The detainee was identified as Milan Tripura (30), son of the late Haripurna Tripura of the Mayda Chhara area in Matiranga upazila. He had long served as a collector for the UPDF (Prosit) faction in the Maratila area, security forces said.
Acting on confidential information, the army conducted the operation in Maratila. Authorities seized a foreign pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammunition, an extortion ledger and 10,000 taka in cash from Milan, they said.
The UPDF (Prosit) faction has long extended its influence across various upazilas of Khagrachhari district, with longstanding allegations that the group has been illegally extorting money from local businesses, markets and the transport sector.
