KHAGRACHHARI — Police detained two Chinese nationals at Ramgarh upazila in Khagrachhari district for entering without official permission, officials said.

The two were taken from the top floor of a four-story building owned by Eliyas Hossain in the Ramgarh municipality market area on Monday evening, Dec. 14. Police identified the men as Chinese passport holders Jiang Cheng Theng and Teng Tang Gu, and said they seized laptops and several technology devices.

According to police and local sources, the men arrived in Ramgarh on Wednesday through Md. Rokon Uddin, a foreman at an aluminum company called Aborna Classic in Kumira, Chattogram. They paid an advance of 30,000 taka without legal documents to rent Eliyas Hossain’s building, telling the owner it would be used as a warehouse for electronic goods.

Ramgarh police station officer in charge Md. Mayeen Uddin said the two Chinese nationals had entered Ramgarh in violation of rules requiring permission to enter the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

A team from BTRC and police is jointly conducting an operation at the rented house, Mayeen said. The devices found with them will be investigated and further action taken accordingly, he said.

The Chinese nationals arrived in Bangladesh about two months ago and had been staying in the Khulshi area of Chattogram, the officer said.

Under a Home Ministry notification, foreign nationals must obtain permission before entering the Chittagong Hill Tracts, but the Chinese nationals had no such authorization, police said.
