The government has taken various steps to modernise the madrasa education system, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said.

He made the remarks on Monday afternoon (26 October) at a prize-giving ceremony for a Quran competition organised by the Tanzimul Ummah Foundation in Dhaka.

Expressing regret, the minister said: “We are falling behind in religious education. This is not good for our nation.” Saying that religious education would be given importance in the education system of the future, he added: “Otherwise we will not get the Bangladesh we want for tomorrow.”

Ehsanul Hoque Milon also said: “We have taken a number of initiatives on how the madrasa education system can be modernised. If we are to survive in today’s society, there is no alternative to modernising the education system.”
