Abdul Awal, assistant private secretary (APS) to Food Minister Afroza Khanam, has been relieved of his duties for drawing up an official tour schedule and inspecting a food warehouse without permission.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued the order on Monday. The decision was taken in line with the food minister’s wishes.

Sources said Abdul Awal inspected the office of the upazila food controller and the food warehouse in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail on 11 October. An official tour schedule for the visit was issued on 8 October under the signature of Rafiqul Islam, the food minister’s personal officer.

Food Minister Afroza Khanam had not been told about the APS’s visit in advance. When she learned of it, she expressed displeasure and later relieved Abdul Awal of his duties verbally.

In a separate order issued the same day, Mizanur Rahman was appointed APS to the food minister. The notification said the appointment will remain in effect for as long as Afroza Khanam holds office or wishes to keep Mizanur Rahman in the post.
