Police have arrested four people in a raid in the remote hill area of Jungle Salimpur in Sitakunda, Chattogram district. Various weapons and a ledger listing extortion collections were recovered.
Md Rasel, additional superintendent of Chattogram district police, confirmed the recovery of weapons and the four arrests at a press conference at Sitakunda police station on Friday. He said the raid was carried out on Thursday afternoon in the Alinagar Bahadurghona area of Jungle Salimpur.
Those arrested are Md Morshed, 33, Md Rasel, 30, Md Babu, 32, and Md Sabbir, 32. Their homes are in various parts of Chattogram and Brahmanbaria districts, and they now live in different communities of the Chhinnamul area of Jungle Salimpur.
Police said that of those arrested, Rasel faces three arms cases, while Morshed, Babu and Sabbir each face two robbery cases and one arms case. On information given by the arrested men, a later raid recovered a shotgun, a Chinese pistol, nine lead bullets, six cartridges, a fishing spear, four Android mobile phones, a power bank and a ledger containing a list of extortion collections.
Sitakunda police station officer-in-charge Md Mohinul Islam said there are several cases against the four at the station. They were sent to jail through the court on Friday afternoon.
