Three more children have died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, though no one died of confirmed measles over the period. In the same time, 1,265 people were infected with measles or measles symptoms across the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services gave the figures in a press release on Friday.
According to the directorate, three children died with measles symptoms in the 24 hours from 8am on Thursday to 8am on Friday. Over the same period, 1,201 suspected measles patients were identified and 64 were confirmed by testing, bringing the total infected with measles or its symptoms to 1,265.
From March 15 to September 25 this year, 185,833 people in the country developed measles symptoms, and 21,015 were confirmed with measles, the directorate said.
Since March 15, 983 children have died with measles symptoms in the country, and a further 101 died after being confirmed with measles, bringing the total number of child deaths from measles and its symptoms this year to 1,084.
According to the directorate, 164,248 people with suspected measles have been admitted to hospital since March 15, of whom 157,807 have recovered and been discharged.
