9 more children die from measles, symptoms in Bangladesh

DHAKA — Nine more children have died from measles or measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services said Saturday. Health officials also detected measles or its symptoms in 1,435 children over the same period.

The information came in a press release issued Saturday from the control room of the directorate.

Three of the nine children who died across the country in the past 24 hours were confirmed measles cases, and six died with measles-like symptoms, the release said. The three confirmed deaths were all from Barishal division. Of the suspected cases that ended in death, three were from Dhaka division, two from Khulna and one from Sylhet.

An additional 1,435 people tested positive or showed symptoms in the past 24 hours, 489 of them confirmed measles cases, the release said.

The death toll from measles and its symptoms over the past 55 days has risen to 352, the directorate said.
