3 more children die with measles symptoms, 1064 infected

DHAKA, Sept. 26 — Three more children died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 980 children showed symptoms of the disease and 84 cases were confirmed as measles.

The latest figures brought the number of new measles-related patients to 1064 children. Since March 15, the official death toll has reached one thousand 87 children. Of them, 101 died of confirmed measles and 986 died with measles symptoms. Total infections so far have reached 2 lakh 7 thousand 912 children.

The Directorate General of Health Services disclosed the figures Saturday in a press release from its control room.

The release said 1 lakh 86 thousand 813 suspected measles patients had been found from March 15 to 8 a.m. on Sept. 26. Confirmed measles cases stood at 21 thousand 99.

During the period, 1 lakh 65 thousand 155 children with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals. A total of 1 lakh 58 thousand 576 children recovered from measles and were discharged.

The health directorate said the three children who died in the past 24 hours were from Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna divisions, one from each. Dhaka division recorded the highest number of patients with measles symptoms during the period, at 394, while 51 confirmed measles cases were detected there.
