Two more children died of suspected measles in the past 24 hours nationwide. During the same period, 1,157 children showed symptoms of the disease, and 79 were confirmed to have measles — 1,236 new cases of measles in all. According to official figures, a total of 999 children have died since March 15. Of them, 100 deaths were confirmed measles, while the remaining 899 died of suspected measles. A total of 186,296 children have been affected so far.
The figures were released Tuesday in a press bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services’ control room.
The bulletin said that between March 15 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 8, 166,461 people were found with suspected measles symptoms. So far, 19,835 confirmed measles cases have been recorded. Over the same period, 146,359 children have been hospitalized with measles symptoms, and 140,850 have recovered and been discharged.
The health directorate said one of the two children who died in the past 24 hours was from Sylhet division and one from Barishal division. During the same period, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of suspected measles cases, at 417, including 66 confirmed cases. By division, Dhaka has recorded the most measles deaths overall, with 466, including 63 confirmed measles deaths and 403 suspected. Next is Sylhet division with 159 deaths, including 3 confirmed; Rajshahi with 95, including 3 confirmed; Mymensingh with 77, including two confirmed; Barishal with 76, including 19 confirmed; Chattogram with 75, including 10 confirmed; Khulna with 37 deaths from suspected measles; and Rangpur division with 14 deaths from suspected measles.
