3 more children die of measles, 968 new cases logged

Three more children died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 905 children developed symptoms of the disease and 63 were confirmed to have measles. In total, 968 new measles cases were recorded. According to government figures, this takes the total death toll since March 15 to 1,022 children. Of these, 100 died from confirmed measles, while the remaining 922 died with measles symptoms. A total of 191,612 children have been infected so far.

The information was released Sunday in a press statement sent from the Health Directorate’s control room.

The statement said that from March 15 through 8am on September 13, a total of 171,543 people with suspected measles symptoms have been found. So far, 20,069 confirmed measles patients have been identified. During this period, 151,024 children have been hospitalised with measles symptoms. A total of 145,252 children have recovered from measles and been discharged from hospital. The Health Directorate said that of the three children who died in the past 24 hours, two were from Dhaka division and one from Chattogram division. During the same period, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of measles symptom cases at 456, of which 63 were confirmed measles cases.
