GAZA — Azzam al-Hayya, the son of Khalil al-Hayya, the exiled Gaza chief of the Palestinian armed group Hamas, was killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza City on Wednesday, Hamas official Bassem Naim said. Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera reported the death.
Earlier reports had said al-Hayya was seriously wounded in the strike, but Hamas later announced his death. Israeli forces have launched multiple attempts in recent months to kill al-Hayya. Six of his seven children had survived previous attacks, but he was not spared this time. Last year, Israeli forces struck Hamas leaders in Doha, an attack al-Hayya also survived.
