Police have arrested actor Don Hok in the murder case filed over the death of Salman Shah, a popular hero of Bangladeshi cinema. The airport police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Kamrul Hasan Talukder, confirmed the arrest on Sunday (9 August) afternoon.
He said immigration police detained Don Hok in the airport area, after which a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took him into custody. A case is ongoing at the CID, which is investigating.
Last year, 29 years after Salman Shah’s death, a court ordered that the case be conducted as a murder trial. Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque, judge of Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, passed the order.
Old records show that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), after a long inquiry that passed through several investigating agencies, reported that Salman Shah’s death was a suicide. His family and fans did not accept that finding.
Following that, on 21 October last year, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed a murder case at the capital’s Ramna police station. It named 11 people as accused, including the actor’s former wife Samira Haque and villain-role actor Don Hok. The allegations are untested. Although there had long been speculation over the real cause of death, no effective steps had been taken to investigate. The case is now being investigated by the CID.
