Government plans extensive state programme for July Uprising Day

The government has taken extensive programmes to mark July Uprising Day at the state level this year. To observe July Uprising Day 2026 with due dignity, the Liberation War Affairs Ministry has sent the necessary directives to various ministries, divisions, offices, agencies and field administration. The minutes of the inter-ministerial meeting held for the purpose have been sent to all relevant institutions, with a request to take further action as decided. The information was given in a letter signed by Shabnam Mustari Rikta, deputy secretary of the ministry’s Administration-2 branch.

According to the letter, the minutes of the 3 May inter-ministerial meeting on observing “July Uprising Day 2026” have been sent to all relevant ministries, divisions and agencies, with directions to take the necessary steps to implement the decisions. Extensive preparations are being made from the top of government down to field administration. The Cabinet Division, Prime Minister’s Office, Armed Forces Division, various ministries, law-enforcement agencies, district administrations, city corporations and upazila administrations have been involved, and memos have been sent to the cabinet secretary, the prime minister’s principal secretary, the three service chiefs and senior secretaries.

Security agencies including the Army, Navy, Air Force, police, RAB, BGB, Ansar and VDP, Coast Guard, NSI, DGFI and Dhaka Metropolitan Police have been directed to make the necessary preparations. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, the Press Information Department and the Department of Mass Communication have been asked to run publicity highlighting the day’s significance, and there are directions for discussions, reminiscences, cultural events, photo exhibitions and special publications at the national level. The minutes have also been sent to all divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, upazila executive officers, superintendents of police and officers-in-charge, so coordinated programmes will be taken at divisional, district and upazila levels alongside the central programme.

The National Freedom Fighters’ Council, the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters’ Welfare Trust, the Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh Scouts, the BNCC and the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters’ Council have also been informed to take part. Government sources say a coordinated effort is being made nationwide to observe the day with dignity, with emphasis on special programmes, illumination of important installations, discussions, prayers and public-awareness activities. Officials of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry said the day’s importance would be conveyed to the public through proper implementation of the inter-ministerial decisions, with all institutions asked to complete preparations within the set time.
