The prime minister’s principal secretary, A B M Abdus Sattar, has said the new pay scale is in its final stages and could be announced at any time.
He disclosed this while speaking with reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The prime minister’s principal secretary said: “With no pay scale update in the past 11 years, 1.8 million government officials and employees are under pressure from inflation. Even though it will be difficult for the public, the living standards of government employees must be adjusted.”
He added: “The government’s primary challenge is the economy. The government is planning to create employment and increase productivity to resolve the crisis.”
The prime minister’s principal secretary also said the current gas, electricity, and energy crisis stems from the Middle East war and the absence of alternative arrangements under the previous government.
The prime minister’s principal secretary said: “The government is trying to build a diversified supply chain from Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and China.”
