One held in Jashore with gold bars worth a crore taka

BGB has detained a smuggler in Jashore with four and a half gold bars worth 1 crore 8 lakh taka. He was detained at noon on Thursday from the Daitala area of Sadar upazila on the Jashore-Narail road.

The detained man, Toufiqur Rahman, is the son of Abdul Majid of Swarupdah village in Sharsha upazila. He was produced in court in the evening, and the judge ordered him sent to jail.

According to a BGB press release, acting on secret information a BGB team conducted a drive in the Daitala area of Sadar upazila on the Jashore-Narail road. Toufiqur Rahman was detained on suspicion, and a search of his person recovered four and a half gold bars hidden in a special way in his trouser pocket. They weighed 536 grams. The value of the gold is 1,08,21,980 taka. A mobile phone and cash were also seized from the detained man.

The commanding officer of the 49 BGB Jashore battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, said a case was filed against the detained man at Kotwali police station in the afternoon and he was handed over. He was sent to jail through the court in the evening.
