Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have destroyed a number of US military aircraft while they were still on the ground. The force said the aircraft were destroyed in strikes on US bases in the Middle East. An IRGC spokesperson gave the information to Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars News on Sunday. In a statement the IRGC spokesperson said extensive damage had been inflicted on the US air force at various bases in the region in Iran’s successive strikes.
He said: “In our strikes, 17 surveillance and operational drones, an F-15 fighter jet inside a hangar, along with a P-8 aircraft, a C-17 transport aircraft and 8 refuelling aircraft were completely destroyed.” Al Jazeera online reported the news.
The IRGC’s claim has created fresh tension amid the continuing conflict with the United States and Israel. Neither the Pentagon nor the US military, however, immediately commented on or confirmed the Iranian claim.
