TEHRAN — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has blamed the US military presence in the region for the instability in the Middle East.
He made the remarks against the backdrop of tit-for-tat strikes between Iran and Israel-United States.
“It is proven that the presence of American foreigners in the Persian Gulf region and the entrenchment of their bases is the most important cause of insecurity in this region,” the supreme leader said.
“America’s puppet bases lack the strength or capacity to ensure their own security,” Khamenei said. “So expecting them to provide security to those in the region who depend on them or to those aligned with America is futile.”
He said foreign interference in the Middle East fuels regional instability. He said he was sending a message to regional countries to reduce their dependence on the United States.
