Ahead of the new season, the Saudi Pro League of Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix has taken a hit. In the Global Football Ranking, Saudi Arabia’s league has slipped outside the top 30 of the list of the world’s best leagues. Lionel Messi’s Major League Soccer (MLS), on the other hand, has risen into the top 10.
After the FIFA World Cup, the SPL is for now awaiting the start of its new season; the 2026-27 campaign begins on 13 August. MLS, meanwhile, has already resumed the remaining matches of its interrupted season after the World Cup break.
Amid this, the Global Football Ranking website has published its ranking of the world’s football leagues. MLS sits 10th with 79.3 points, while the Saudi Pro League is 36th with 75.1 points.
By individual club, Messi’s Inter Miami tops the MLS clubs, ranked 79th in the global ranking with 84.9 points. Among SPL clubs, Al Ahli is 75th in the global ranking with 85 points.
Ronaldo and Félix’s Al Nassr are, for now, not even in the top 100. They are 116th with 83.4 points.
As ever, England’s Premier League has held on to the top spot in the ranking of the world’s best leagues. It is the only league with more than 90 points (91.8).
There has also been a surprising improvement for Italy’s Serie A. Overtaking Spain’s La Liga (86), the Italian league has risen to second with 86.1 points. Also in the top five are France’s Ligue 1 (85.6) and Germany’s Bundesliga (85.4).
Separately, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published its most recent league ranking last February. According to that report, Saudi Arabia’s league was 27th with 2,626.75 points, and the US league 48th with 1,707.75 points.
