Criticising the opposition’s programmes, BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said: “The situation you have created today, the kind of things you are saying through your hired muscle and your hidden and dormant ranks, is giving the defeated forces courage and encouragement. On what courage are they telling Chhatra Dal activists that they will beat them like dogs? You are trying to tarnish the victory of August 5.”
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon (September 25) at a protest rally organised by Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal against a “conspiracy to destabilise the country through terror”.
“In the democratic environment the government led by Tarique Rahman is creating, you are holding long marches, protest rallies, climbing on stages and issuing threats — saying you will beat people like dogs, chasing people and destroying public property, as the hidden and dormant ranks did at Rajshahi railway station,” Rizvi said.
Criticising the opposition, he said: “What is happening in Bangladesh today is that the defeated fascists are marching. You are claiming the BNP has given them the chance. Then on what opportunity are you smashing railway stations? On what courage are you telling Chhatra Dal activists you will beat them like dogs? Who are you talking about? Who is setting fire to vehicles in different parts of Dhaka? Who is setting fire to CNG auto-rickshaws? Who is setting fire to trains? You yourselves have created this opportunity today.”
“For this, August 5 happened; for this, Wasim Akram, Abu Sayeed, Ahnaf, Faiyaz, Mugdho — countless young people gave their lives, handed water to their friends after being shot,” he added. “This great example of sacrifice, the July revolution, the victory of August 5 — you are trying to tarnish that victory, trampling on democracy.”
