A former Chhatra League leader from Thakurgaon, Juwel Rana, who fell ill shortly after returning home with his new bride following his wedding, has died. He died on Monday (June 22) morning after two days under treatment in hospital.
Juwel Rana was a former general secretary of the Ruhia thana unit of Chhatra League in Thakurgaon.
According to family and local sources, the main formalities of Juwel Rana’s wedding were completed in a joyful atmosphere on Friday (June 19). That night, he returned home with his new bride in a festive mood. But within a short while of reaching home, he felt severe breathing difficulty. As his condition deteriorated rapidly, family members took him without delay to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital and had him admitted.
A former student leader, Anarul Islam, said: ‘What misfortune. He married on the night of the 19th. From the time he returned that night, he was admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital because of breathing difficulty. Last night he was admitted to the Dinajpur Heart Foundation for better treatment. He passed away at around 7:20 a.m. today.’
The sudden and untimely death of the former top leader of the Ruhia thana unit has cast a deep shadow of grief among local political activists, relatives and neighbours. Comrades and acquaintances have also been expressing their grief on social media.
