A stone idol, three pieces of kasti stone, two antique empty liquor bottles, a conch shell, and two East India Company stamps have been recovered in a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) raid in the Lakshmipur area of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. No one was arrested in the operation, carried out at 12:10am Thursday night.
The recovered stone idol weighs 14 kilograms, 400 grams. The three pieces of kasti stone weigh 22 kilograms, 100 grams. In total, the kasti stone weighs 36 kilograms, 500 grams.
According to BGB, the two recovered stamps were used by the East India Company and are about 200 years old.
BGB said the total seizure value of all recovered items stands at 3.65 million taka.
Based on its own intelligence, a special patrol team from 50 BGB, led by battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Kh. Akhlaqur Rahman, carried out the raid in the Lakshmipur area, roughly 15 kilometres from the battalion headquarters.
50 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Kh. Akhlaqur Rahman said: “Alongside ensuring border security, BGB is regularly conducting operations under various strategic plans to prevent smuggling.”
