National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossain said the BNP government is growing increasingly disconnected from the people. He made the comment at a press conference Thursday afternoon at the party’s office in Banglamotor, in the capital.
Alleging that partisan appointments are being made across the country, Akhter Hossain said: “Since coming to power, energy and electricity prices have risen abnormally. If we cannot get out of this crisis, people in this country will starve.”
He said: “To address public suffering, NCP and an 11-party alliance will hold a long march from Dhaka to Chattogram on Sept. 5, raising six demands over the energy and power crisis and rising commodity prices.”
NCP’s chief organizer for the northern region, Sarjis Alam, said: “The ruling party is spreading disinformation and harassing opposition figures who want to take part in the local government elections, in various ways.”
He warned that if the ruling party continues to obstruct the opposition’s political activities, the consequences will not be good.
