The film “Shekor” premiered last October at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto, Canada. At the time, director Prasun Rahman had said it would release in the country’s cinemas at some Eid. He had planned to release it this Eid-ul-Azha and had begun promotion, releasing two songs and a trailer, but then stepped back. The football World Cup is about to begin and the excitement will run for more than a month — a period Prasun does not consider a good time for a release either. So the director has decided to release “Shekor” only after the World Cup ends.

Prasun Rahman said: “Our wish was to release Shekor this Eid. But seeing so many films coming out together, I stepped back from that decision myself. I have no discomfort with healthy competition, but I am uncomfortable in an excessive crowd. It also seemed to me that a quieter time is more suitable for a family, emotion-driven film like Shekor. We want viewers to watch the film calmly, not in a hurry or amid the noise.” He added: “The football World Cup is about to start even before the appeal of the Eid-release films fades. We will bring Shekor right after this wonderful season of the Eid mood and the football World Cup ends.”

“Shekor” tells the story of the eternal bond between people and the soil — the identity crisis of migrants, the search for one’s roots even after being cut off from one’s birthplace, and the desperate effort to reconnect with loved ones left behind. The film marks the first time F S Naeem and Aisha Khan appear together on the big screen. It also features Dilara Zaman, Shamu Chowdhury, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Nafis Ahmed, Nairuz Sifat, Rownak Ripon, Fatematuz Zohra Eva, child artist Muntaha Emilia and many others.
