Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s political adviser and BNP senior joint secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the prime minister is working tirelessly to implement the promises made during the election campaign.

“Whether it is agriculture or the health sector, there is no shortfall in implementing these commitments. He is monitoring everything constantly,” Rizvi said.

He highlighted several recent policy actions: individuals earning up to 4 lakh taka annually are now exempt from income tax; a proposed tax on small grocery shops was withdrawn before the budget was passed; and the price of a 12-kg gas cylinder has been reduced by 357 taka.

“Public interest is being given the highest priority. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is focused on reducing the suffering of the people,” he said.

Rizvi made the remarks at a prayer and discussion event marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of President Ziaur Rahman, organized by Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and indigenous community groups at Dhakeshwari Temple on Friday.

He said the current environment of free speech was an achievement of the student-people’s movement. “For the first time in a long while, everyone has the freedom to speak their mind. Through this movement, we have secured genuine voting rights, a free and fair election, and an accountable government,” he said.

Addressing community relations, Rizvi said all communities — Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Chakma, and Tripura — had fought together for the nation’s independence and economic development. “Attempts have been made repeatedly to draw a dividing line between ‘us’ and ‘them,’ but the depth of our unity makes that impossible,” he said.
