Two Israeli reserve soldiers have been killed when a small explosive-laden drone crashed and exploded during operations in the Gaza Strip.
The dead are Master Sergeant Nadav Kali, 24, of Har Halutz, and Master Sergeant Ofek Moalem, 23, of Jerusalem.
Both served in the Jerusalem Brigade’s 7007th Battalion.
According to the army’s preliminary investigation, the two soldiers were operating from a base in the military buffer zone in the north of the Gaza Strip on Thursday afternoon.
The first drone completed its mission successfully, but the second crashed inside the base during take-off for unknown reasons. The preliminary inquiry found that a few minutes after the crash the soldiers went to the drone and picked it up, at which point it exploded, critically wounding them. They were pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
