The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has lowered gold prices in the domestic market after three consecutive increases. The price of one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-karat gold has been reduced by 2,158 taka, bringing the new price, including VAT, to 234,621 taka per bhori.
Bajus announced the new prices in a notice Friday morning. The revised prices took effect from 10 a.m.
Bajus said the price of pure gold has declined in the local market, prompting the adjustment based on overall market conditions.
New prices for various grades of gold
Under the new pricing, 22-karat gold, including VAT, is priced at 234,621 taka per bhori. Twenty-one-karat gold is priced at 224,065 taka per bhori, and 18-karat gold at 192,398 taka per bhori.
Traditional-method gold has been priced at 157,172 taka per bhori.
Bajus said the new prices will remain in effect at all jewelry establishments nationwide until further notice. Making charges will apply according to jewelry design.
The Bajus notice stated that since VAT is included in the sale price of gold and silver jewelry, retailers cannot charge VAT separately from customers. Previous Bajus rules on jewelry exchange and purchase — excluding fixed VAT, making charges, and stone value — remain in effect.
Price had risen a day earlier
Bajus had last adjusted gold prices on Thursday morning, raising the price of 22-karat gold by 1,133 taka per bhori, bringing the price including VAT to 236,779 taka per bhori at the time.
