The class-11 admission process for this year is set to begin in the last week of July. Maintaining the continuity of previous years, students will again be admitted to colleges on the basis of GPA.

According to education board sources, the application process will be completed entirely online. There will be no change in the rules this year either: as before, students will be able to choose a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 colleges in order of preference.

At a meeting of inter-education-board college inspectors at the Dhaka Education Board last Sunday, there was detailed discussion of the draft 2026 class-11 admission policy. All the inspectors present agreed to continue the online, GPA-based admission process as in previous years. The responsibility for finalising the policy, however, rests with the education ministry, and the inspectors said whatever decision came from the ministry would be the one finally implemented.

According to officials concerned, there is a major difference between school admission and college admission. GPA-based online admission saves students both time and money and leaves no scope for irregularity. It is also very difficult for a student to sit admission tests in person at several colleges, whereas online it is easy to list between five and 10 colleges in order of preference; and even those who miss out in the first phase can change their preferences in the next phase.

The most important point is that the entire process is carried out with the direct technical support of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), which means there is virtually no scope for any dispute over the merit list or college selection.

Class-11 admission has been conducted on the basis of GPA since 2015. Beyond this, however, some mission- or church-run institutions have, on the basis of a court order, continued to follow their own separate admission process, holding written admission tests for class 11. These are Notre Dame College, Holy Cross College, St Joseph Higher Secondary School and St Gregory’s High School and College.
