Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed an alternative, or “shadow,” budget of 8,39,505 crore taka for fiscal 2026-27, giving highest priority to public administration, education and technology, and interest payments on debt. The budget was presented at a press conference at the Al-Falah auditorium in Moghbazar on Tuesday (9 June) by Saiful Islam Khan Milon, a member of Jamaat’s executive council and MP for Dhaka-12.

The proposed budget allocates 24.09 percent of total spending — 2,02,245 crore taka — to public administration. The second-largest allocation, 1,25,575 crore taka, is proposed for education and technology, while 1,27,500 crore taka is set aside for interest payments on debt, 15.19 percent of the total.

The outline allocates 65,340 crore taka to transport and communications, 51,670 crore to agriculture, 48,150 crore to social protection, 45,240 crore to health, and 45,220 crore to local government and rural development. It also proposes 43,462 crore taka for defence, 34,457 crore for public order and security, and 24,950 crore for fuel and power.
